Lithium p,p'-di-tert-butylbiphenyl - Introduction
Freeman's reagent (also known as lithium p,p'-di-tert-butylbiphenyl) is an organic compound with the chemical formula Li(C6H3-2,6-tBu)2. It has the following properties:
1. Appearance: Freeman's reagent is a white to light yellow crystal powder.
2. Solubility: It is soluble in non-polar solvents, such as n-heptane, benzene and chloroform.
3. Stability: Freeman's reagent is stable at room temperature, but it easily reacts with moisture and oxygen in the air.
Freeman's reagent has a wide range of applications in organic synthesis, mainly used in the following areas:
1. Synthesis of metal organic compounds: It can be used as a reversible reducing agent for the synthesis of metal organic compounds, and is especially suitable for the synthesis of cuprous and silver metal organic complexes.
2. Reaction catalyst: Freeman's reagent can be used as a catalyst to promote organic reactions, such as the isomerization of complex molecules and cyclization reactions.
Freeman's reagent can be obtained by the following preparation method:
Dissolve tert-butyl lithium and biphenyl in a dry lithium hydroxide ethanol solution, then stir the reaction at room temperature for 3 hours, and finally extract with ether to obtain pure Freeman's reagent.
Regarding safety information, Freeman's reagent is an organic lithium compound, which has certain risks and toxicity. The following safety precautions shall be taken during use and storage:
1. Avoid contact with water and moisture, should be stored in a dry, sealed container.
2. In the process of Operation should wear appropriate protective gloves and glasses, avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
3. When used indoors, good ventilation should be maintained to avoid inhalation of toxic gases volatilized by organic lithium compounds.
4. When disposing of waste, it should be disposed of in accordance with local environmental protection regulations and avoid discharging it into the environment.
